What happens when two artists work together on one piece of art – without ever meeting one another? Found Gallery curator Jonny Coleman has selected forty- eight L.A.-based artists to collaborate on 2-D pieces of work. The artists have been anonymously paired with one another, and each team is given a blank surface to work from, along with the title of a Supreme Court case to guide their work. Each artist has the work for one week, documenting each day’s work through photographs. They are not allowed to meet throughout the project.
Coleman wanted to give artists who otherwise wouldn’t create, due to time or work constraints, an opportunity to express themselves. By setting time and artistic limitations, he offers structure and motivation for these artists.
Throughout the course of the project, the artists’ work will be displayed at: The Joint Custody Blog. You can also find the final list of Joint Custody Artists.
We are at it again in 2008. Make sure to check out The Joint Custody Project 2008.
