Donna Angers, recent Otis graduate, will hold her first solo exhibition of all portraiture.

Ms. Angers is thoroughly interested in seemingly straightforward portraiture. Whether grabbing inspiration from mainstream publications or from her neighborhood grocery boy, she has been producing in a fervent manner, completing more paintings in the last two years than could be hung in several exhibitions. The human figure she conjures typically faces the viewer, either dead on or head slightly cocked. In roughly half of her pieces, she gives full attention to clothing, whether it be tribal regalia or an elderly couple’s Sunday best.

Much of the success of Ms. Angers’ work stems from its familiarity and simplicity. She hones in on these benign figures and whittles away everything else, save perhaps a hint at a time and place. Whereas her body of work exudes some sort of warm nostalgic hold over the viewer, each painting maintains its own individuality, despite its plain presentation. Donna Angers is painting without restraint, using intuition and a benevolent perspective to guide her choices.

Ultimately, she renders a world that is both forgiving, inviting, and devoid of self-awareness. That’s a world we at Found are pleased to share with you.

The body of work presented spans several years ago when Donna’s interest in studio arts was reawakened through her most recent painting, ‘Red Blouse.’

Opening Reception to feature DJ Julian Brody of Modus Vivendi Records.
