Having taken numerous photos of The Dears on the road, Valérie decided to turn her attention to other bands she met along the way. Her backstage access gave her the opportunity to look closely at other musicians before and after their performances. Unlike her other projects, these subjects were already highly exposed in the media, so in order to portray them differently, Valérie decided to use her Hasselblad medium-format camera and take intimate portraits.

She sought to reveal the state of mind of her subjects, such as exhaustion, concentration, anticipation, relief, playfulness, disappointment, pride, anxiety etc. Having experienced these feelings herself as a musician, she wanted to capture these subtleties. Valérie intends to publish and exhibit her project Backstage by the Fall of 2008.
