“Does my sexiness upset you? Does it come as a surprise…”
Raised in Arkansas and New Jersey, Donna Angers graduated from high school only three years after Brown v. Board of Education. As a black woman who has first hand experience of various stages of desegregation in different regions, Angers carries feelings of pride and disappointment with the evolution of minority representation in popular culture.
While refining her skills at the Otis Fine Arts program, she turned to Klimt and mainstream advertising for inspiration. Without being overtly political or reserved, Angers has found a delicate balance between confrontational portraits and subtle serenity.
Donna Angers currently resides in Los Angeles.
She participated in our inaugural reception, ‘Introductions,’ in August 2006 and is now holding her first solo show with Found this July.
The exhibition is called ‘It’s my first time.’
