JCP Pecha Kucha, Berlin

I am presenting at Pecha Kucha tomorrow evening in Kreuzberg [for Germans, go here] about the Joint Custody Project.  The short-form presentation format is active in several cities around the world.  Each presenter works under the limitations of presenting 20 images which stay projected for 20 seconds, netting a 6 minute 40 second long discussion on a given subject.  Like the JCP itself, the restrictive format is very interesting.  I have never been to one of these, though they have taken place in LA at the Mountain Bar.

Also, I am extremely excited to hear from the Chessboxer.

Downtime

Irene Kai on BoingBoingContrary to popular belief, Found Gallery did not disappear yesterday. A number of concerned patrons of the arts have contacted the gallery over the last two days, regarding the fact that our website was down. Our current show, Irene Kai’s What Do You See?, was featured on the front page of BoingBoing. We had over 6,000 visitors within the first 20 minutes. This caused our server to break. Sorry for the downtime – hope you can forgive us.

Now Showing: Irene Kai’s What Do You See

What Do You See?

Irene Kai’s What Do You See is running at Found from June 8 through June 30, 2008. The 16 black and white images, on display for the first time in Los Angeles, caused a major uproar, back in 1976, within the Royal College of Art staff, which took two months to settle and caused the Royal College to change its hiring policy. Previously shown in New York City and London, the images were released as a book in 2006. The exhibition encourages us to explore the source of our own sociocultural bias – causing us to take pause and examine our perception of human sexuality. Stop by any Friday, Saturday or Sunday, between 1-5pm, this month. Have questions? Read more about the show – and tell us what you see: a penis? a vagina? a butt? a breast?Artist proceeds from the show go to support production of Red Earth Descendants Irene’s newest film.

Don’t forget the Closing Reception Saturday, June 28, from 7-10 pm. You know where we’re at: 1903 Hyperion Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90027

Unboxing with Interns, A&K Down, Kai Up

Unboxing Irene Kai

As we near the end of the month, things at Found are getting busy. After gallery hours today, I spent time cleaning house, and prepping for the take down of A&K’s Not Particularly Tall, which closes this Wednesday, June 4. If you haven’t seen it, please contact me to set-up a time to come in.

We’re also plotting the hang of our newest show - Irene Kai’s What Do You See? Jean, our newest intern, and I spent time with levels, measuring tape, and tons of packing peanuts, prepping for Saturday’s installation. The show opens this Sunday, June 8, with a closing reception Saturday, June 28 from 7-10pm.

Today also marks the official kick-off of the Joint Custody Project in Los Angeles. Make sure to sure to follow up on progress over at the Joint Custody Project Blog. We’ll cross-post here occasionally as well.
