Its Finally Here*

Its Not Hard

Its Not Hard*: Explorations of Live Art finally made it across the pond into our eager little hands. The book was printed in a very limited run - so for those of you unlucky enough not to have your own copy, you can get your sticky little fingers on one over at Amazon (albeit for the steep price tag of $49.07). The book, edited by Anthony Schrag of Glasgow, is a collection of work by many artists, including our own Brady Brim-DeForest, and A&K.

Get your Little Bird on / off register

off-register-littlebird.jpg

Part exhibition, part demonstration, Off Register proves to be another interesting evening at Little Bird Gallery, down the block in Atwater.  A subject I’m usually compelled by but don’t seem to intersect too often, printmaking will be on display.  However, experimental printmaking will be the focus, and the use of imperfection and irregularity between prints [the antithesis of printmaking tenants of consistency] are the goals.

In the best way, I’m not sure what to expect.

Mylissa Fitzsimmons, who directs and curates at Little Bird, is coincidentally one of our artists for the current exhibit, Camera Ephemera, which will be on view for its final weekend this coming Saturday and Sunday [gallery open 1-5pm].

new-remedee.jpg

Remedee is a project that happens to be a the product of several institutions that I respect or have gotten involved with over my life, namely NOVAC and NOCCA during my high school in New Orleans.  Next Thursday, Good presents the short docs by New Orleans youths that confront enviornmental challenges.  It takes place down the street at siteLA.

Now Showing: Irene Kai’s What Do You See

What Do You See?

Irene Kai’s What Do You See is running at Found from June 8 through June 30, 2008. The 16 black and white images, on display for the first time in Los Angeles, caused a major uproar, back in 1976, within the Royal College of Art staff, which took two months to settle and caused the Royal College to change its hiring policy. Previously shown in New York City and London, the images were released as a book in 2006. The exhibition encourages us to explore the source of our own sociocultural bias – causing us to take pause and examine our perception of human sexuality. Stop by any Friday, Saturday or Sunday, between 1-5pm, this month. Have questions? Read more about the show – and tell us what you see: a penis? a vagina? a butt? a breast?Artist proceeds from the show go to support production of Red Earth Descendants Irene’s newest film.

Don’t forget the Closing Reception Saturday, June 28, from 7-10 pm. You know where we’re at: 1903 Hyperion Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90027
