We greet you this Monday with some images from Saturday morning’s happening. We have many more tricks/treats in store and will show you the video of our efforts when we’ve got a few more feathers in our caps. Until then, click here for the full photoset [explanation later].
Thanks to CRZA, Amy, Billy, Drew, Piper, Meranda, KC, and those whom we met.
A friend of mine and I were talking about Alan Kaprow recently. I don’t recall the exact occassion, but there is some anniversary of one of his happenings or something akin. I then brought the idea of starting some happenings with the Found people on Sunday. We came up with several pretty wild ideas, but we wanted to start with one. We’re going to hold it this coming Saturday morning [March 15] at the Farmer’s Market in Silver Lake [map].
If you want to partake in the improvised mania, please arrive at 9am and email me to confirm that you’re coming. Bring a still camera or camera phone or both. These are not just props; make sure they work & that you know how to use them. Dress like you normally do to a Farmer’s Market. Feel free to bring friends; just let me know how many to expect.
We’ll fill you in on the details on Saturday morning. We should be done by 10:45-11 at the very latest. Bring your sense of humor.
New works by Jersey Joe at GhettoGloss opens tonight.
Also, a group show at La Luz de Jesus curated by Billy Shire, ‘Everything but the kitchen syn’ also opens this evening. Leave room for your poppy sweet tooth. [Image above by Melanie Stimmell]
What’s the real problem with Eastside gentrification? Nothing really. Dave Eggers has recently launched Echo Park’s Time Travel Mart, which is an outpost of 826LA, basically a non-profit after school tutoring/educational space for local tweens. They’re looking for an assistant and volunteer tutors. Read more.
Echo Park’s always interesting Echo Curio completes the Tri-Force of its first Triannual Exhibit this December. There is an OPEN CALL for submissions, and anything you bring will be shown. The dropoff takes place Tuesday, December 4th from 7-10pm, and the reception is Friday, Decmeber 7th from 8 to midnight. Questions? Email echocurio@gmail.com.
Thanks to everyone who participated, helped, or attended the Art Crawl last weekend. We now can relaunch the blog, because we have some spare time again. We’ll start things off with a series of links to photos from this last weekend. Click the links to see more.

You can now preview some of the events, exhibitions, transportation, etc. on the new Art Crawl X site.
Also, here’s a list of some upcoming openings/closings by Art Crawl X Participating Venues:
Found artist/musician Arrington de Dionyso and his band of merrymen Old Time Relijun are performing tonight and tomorrow night at the Echo and the Smell, respectively. He originally showed with Found a year ago in our indie-alt-folk-works-on-paper group show Eager Believer.
Diane Barcelowsky, whose work just came down, was also a participating alongside and the two [although Arrington and Diane did not actually meet] realized how well their styles meshed and have since forged a slow moving long distance collaboration from Washington to New York.

Eighteen-thirty continues to make a compelling case for being one of the most active, diverse ‘art spaces’ or galleries in town, with its upcoming weekend project/sleepover THINK TANK 1: Back to Your Basics.
And by Basics, they daily elements like transportation, education, shelter, etc.
The schedule of events is daunting and diverse, ranging from bike rides, continental breakfasts, presentations on YouTube and progressive education to optional overnight sleepovers. Oh, and it’s no budget.
