Says the PSA site: Councilman Jose Huizar will be present at the Phyllis headquarters to officiate the ribbon cutting ceremony at 6pm. Immediately following the christening is the artists’ opening reception for the colorful pieces created by Jesse Chapo and Eric Smails from 7 - 10pm.
See you there + then.
UPDATE: Read more about the mission + the 4 behind Phyllis Stein in a piece for Citizen by Found’s own Leah Demo here.
This Saturday, May 10 Peres Projects is opening a new show by Terrence Koh at their gallery in Chinatown. Instead of sharing some images or the postcard, I would like to reproduce what is, perhaps, the most inspiring and engaging invitation I’ve ever received to anything, really. Thanks to Chris for making me read through the end.

Click here to read the recent cover story I wrote for the May edition of Citizen on Lilli Muller.
Then, see the film After Hours (Griffin Dunn plays himself basically, but a really great one) and let me know what you think about the cast figure and the latent German/Nazi/Ghetto images and references.

There’s much more art to see tonight and tomorrow, leading off with the monthly Downtown Art Walk. LAist breaks down why the Art Walk is a must-see here.
Also, Otis’ class of 2008 Exhibition is tomorrow evening. Details here.
Vosotros‘ Lazy Susan project is capped off tonight at Land in Little Tokyo. The 12 month long project finds Gabe Noel forming a brand new band every month. They write, record, mix, and play live. And then disband.
As of February, the project is one year old, and to celebrate, Vosotros is releasing a compilation of all the recorded singles. Found will be hosting a listening party on Leap Year Day. Their work is highly recommended and Creative Commons licensed.
Roving artcreants Phantom Galleries return with dueling venues downtown, featuring work by undergraduates from USC’s Roski School of Fine Arts, as the young artists tackle issues of betweenness, being caught betwixt work completed and work not yet conceived. Reception today.

Starting tomorrow, Wired presents a four day ‘New Worlds Fair’ of all things new in all realms of technology & design at the Convention Center. The people behind this massive expo haven’t been too forthcoming with details, but tasty images like the one above suggest missing what Wired’s NextFest has to offer would be downright irresponsible.
This week I’m finally going to make it to the Downtown Art Walk. Below are some openings that I definitely recommend visiting in the area.
+ Found alumni Airom Bleicher, Jim Holyoak and Alex Schaefer team back up after their two Micro Gestalt shows with ‘animal-esque,’ a multimedia immersion trying to describe our relationship with other creatures as a whole and individually. Taking place at Art Murmur Gallery.
+ Pharmaka presents ‘Selected Stories,’ an all woman painting & drawing show featuring work based on the artists’ own mythology or narratives. Featuring new works by Loretta Bourque, Hazel Collins, Jessie Henson, and Johanna Byström Sims.
+ Probably the most fascinating exhibition goes up at the Los Angeles Center for Digital Arts. The ‘Snap to Grid: The Un-Juried Show’ [in its fourth year] acts a a reaction to the long-running LA Municipal’s summer open juried show. Basically, anyone who uploads an image online gains entry into the show, provided he/she follows the guidelines. Like the internet itself, the consumer/viewer has to sift through and judge the value of all of the openly entered work.
+ New paintings by Susan Bolles at Stelladottir.
