Please join us tomorrow [Saturday, May 3] from 6-9pm as we celebrate the opening of a&k’s ‘not particularly tall,’ a show that features no less than 366 roses as well as several other colorful, craft + holdiay-inspired treats. The show is open through June 6. More words:
Found Gallery ally Creative Commons is turning five this December and to celebrate they are hosting a community-wide party at Terra Gallery in San Francisco Saturday, December 15 from 10pm - 2am. The evening will feature words by Joi Ito and Lawrence Lessig, a live acoustic performance by Gilberto Gil, video remixing by Phi Phenomenon, and music provided by DJ Spooky. Space is limited so please RSVP to party@creativecommons.org. CC is also throwing parties in New York, Germany, Australia, Korea, and now, Los Angeles.
UPDATE: Found Gallery is proud to announce that it will be hosting the Los Angeles Edition of the the Creative Commons Surprise Birthday Bash on Saturday, December 15. Doors open at 8pm. We’d better see you there! (More at the official Creative Commons party listing)
I finally got a few pictures up from last week’s Conjunction Gumption party. As you can see, [from left] Golden, CRZA, & Sam Sparro lost a few pounds of sweat and tears. If you missed Sam Sparro, his record release party is this Saturday at Bordello [info below]. Thanks to everyone who came and drank mint juleps.
Sunset Junction begins tomorrow [cars get towed tonight], and Found proudly presents the 3rd part of our one year Paper Anniversary, CONJUNCTION GUMPTION, tomorrow night.
Join us immediately following the Blonde Redhead performance [begins at 7:30pm] for DJ set by Found resident CRZA and a performance by Modus Vivendi’s amazing Sam Sparro.
A little taste of Sam from a recent show at El Cid in Silverlake:
As always, the event is free and we’re serving [as part of the Sunset Junction tradition] a specialty beverage [Mint Juleps]. In addition, the gallery will be open 10am-10:30pm on Saturday and 10am-10pm on Sunday. Stop by.
Thanks to Carina Round & the John Nau Quartet [and those who provided baked goods last Sunday] for giving us some great, intimate sets. If you like what you heard from Carina, you can buy her music on iTunes.
After the jump, we have some pictures by Tito da Costa from the wonderful evening programmed by Amelia June Spooner.
Tonight is our second event as part of our One Year/Paper Anniversary. Carina Round, the John Nau Quartet, & Erick Cole have graciously volunteered to play their songs for you this evening. Come for the cupcakes, beer, or because you don’t have anything else going on tonight. If all goes well, we will be planning to hold one of these every month or two. Please join us.
Thanks to all who came by for cookies & champagne on Saturday evening. We’re packing up Wolfgang’s paintings tomorrow. One of Found’s new talented volunteers [specializing in film/video/photography/motion graphics], Tito da Costa {a native of Portugal}, busted out the 12mm, I think it was, and got some fun, bendy orthagonals going on. Some of my favorites:
Tomorrow evening [Saturday, June 9 6-8.5pm] we celebrate the closing of Wolfgang’s ‘Spring Awakenings.’ In addition, our neighbors Refuge are coincidentally hosting a party called ‘Spring Fling’ and have invited all of you Found Friends to share in food/drink/services/etc. Don’t sleep on the Dead Man’s Curve [ps-we’re trying to change that] on Hyperion. That’s more going on than needless body shops.
Matt Maust and bandmates of Cold War Kids will return this February for what is being described as a ‘co-op’ between Matt and his photographer friend Matt Wignall. Hmmm. We like collaboration here. This should definitely be another banger.
Join us tonight at the Broadway Bar, as the Buttons become 3, with a special guest DJ. The Found Favorite watering hole is a bi-weekly curiousity: a fun, list-less, coverless, regular stomping ground for the eastside locals sans too much pretension.
