A friendly reminder that we are hosting the latest CC Salon LA next week (9/3/08) at Found between 7:30PM-9:30PM. Joining us will be Xeni Jardin, Tech Culture Journalist and co-editor at Boing Boing, and Casey Caplowe, Creative Director of GOOD Magazine.

Both will discuss how CC, and ‘openness’ in general, has been employed in their respective undertakings, touching on the the successes they have had as well as obstacles they have had to overcome, specifically in regards to traditional and non-traditional journalism. Both will be available for Q&A after their presentations.

Follow the event on Upcoming, mark attending on Facebook, and make sure to come down and hear from two exemplary members of the CC community on their experiences with open licensing. As always, there will be free (as in beer) drinks for the entire night.

UPDATE: We are pleased to announce that the wonderful sounds of Vosotros will be heard at the Salon in between presenters, giving you yet another reason to attend!

Peggy and Amanda kiss, make up

From Peggy and Amanda [re: their performance at the Found 2 year anniversary opening last Saturday]:

Basically what happened at the performance was that Amanda and I were dancing on stage with one of the last bands during their last song.  I kept bumping into Amanda while sipping on my beer and dancing.  Then I drunkenly grabbed her head several times, trying to make out with her, which she refuses by pushing me away.  Then the last time she pushes me away she also throws beer on me, then I throw my beer at her, and then we lunged at each other and had a good ole cat fight.  Then we had Jonny’s friend “Billy” planted in the crowd to pull me away from Amanda in order to stop the fight, but what also happened was that a bystander “Jed James” stepped in and pulled Amanda away from me also.  Then Amanda broke off from her restrainer and jumped on Billy’s back as he was dragging me away.  Then me and Amanda walked back to the stage, with our arms around each other, like we made up, but then she finds that I ripped off and broke her necklace, yells at me, and then we lunge at each other again, and we start act two of the cat fight.  This time we end the fight when the music ends.

We wanted to place the audience in a real life situation where they didn’t know if what was happening was real or planned in order to see how they would react and how they would find themselves reacting.  We decided to use the situation of a physical fight which does not require audience participation, but puts pressure on the audience to react or get involved in the fight.  Also a physical fight situation is one that most of those gallery attendants have never experienced other than on youtube or Jerry Springer, so we wanted to give them that gift.

See all of the gifts here.

Pretend Behavior Photos

Click here to see photos from pt. 3 of the Spacial Reconstruction installation, ‘Pretend Behavior’ by Morrisa Maltz.  It was another intense, loopy 36 hour reception where people and things shuffled and interacted with the space and work.
