ANIMAL-ESQUE: Downtown Art Walk Picks
This week I’m finally going to make it to the Downtown Art Walk. Below are some openings that I definitely recommend visiting in the area.
+ Found alumni Airom Bleicher, Jim Holyoak and Alex Schaefer team back up after their two Micro Gestalt shows with ‘animal-esque,’ a multimedia immersion trying to describe our relationship with other creatures as a whole and individually. Taking place at Art Murmur Gallery.
+ Pharmaka presents ‘Selected Stories,’ an all woman painting & drawing show featuring work based on the artists’ own mythology or narratives. Featuring new works by Loretta Bourque, Hazel Collins, Jessie Henson, and Johanna Byström Sims.
+ Probably the most fascinating exhibition goes up at the Los Angeles Center for Digital Arts. The ‘Snap to Grid: The Un-Juried Show’ [in its fourth year] acts a a reaction to the long-running LA Municipal’s summer open juried show. Basically, anyone who uploads an image online gains entry into the show, provided he/she follows the guidelines. Like the internet itself, the consumer/viewer has to sift through and judge the value of all of the openly entered work.
+ New paintings by Susan Bolles at Stelladottir.
