Junction News
[that which is show above does not reflect any of Found’s experience in Silverlake, nor of Sunset Junction]
Thanks to the SLGA which has tipped us off to some interesting changes in this year’s Sunset Junction Street Festival. Most notably, the route has been significantly changed, and the price has been raised [again]. However, you will still be able to get trashed and partake in carnival activities, engage in good people watching, and maybe hear a good band perform.
Below are the details from SLGA in their entirety [sorry for cribbing, but no permalink is available]:
Sunset Junction (August 18-19) is just around the corner. Around the neighborhood you can feel that intoxicating mixture of tension and excitement that we love as businesses and residence baton down the hatches and gear up for craziest two days in the region. Here’s a roundup of what we know to date.
1. Our own Thinkspace will be contributing a live painting demonstration as part of the event and Both Junc Gallery and Thinkspace will have SLGA gallery maps available for visitors
2. As we mentioned before the route has been changed and now extends from Hoover to Sanborn along Santa Monica Blvd. and Sanborn to Fountain along Sunset Blvd. Recently business owners (located along the previous stretch) had the opportunity to meet with fair representatives at an SLNC meeting to discuss their concerns and air their grievances. We hear things got heated. No word on any resolution. We’ll keep you posted.
3. This year the fair will charge a fee, $15 at the gate or 12 dollars in advance. Children under 12 and seniors get in free. Tickets are available through ticketweb and Tsunami Coffee House located at 4019 Sunset. We also understand businesses and local residence will be given wristbands to get in free. The street fair will be distributing flyers homes in the neighborhood about how and when to obtain. An exact map of who qualifies for free admittance is unknown but we will post an update as soon we know.
4. If you’re commuting to the fair and need parking our pick is the Los Angeles City College parking lot. 835 North Vermont Avenue (at Willowbrook Avenue). Shuttle will be available. (5 blocks away from the event, going east on Santa Monica Blvd)
5. Two new acts have been added to the lineup: Hot Hot Heat and She Wants Revenge.
6. Last but not least, public bathrooms (porta-potties) will be located at Sunset and Sanborn
