My Favorite [Probably] Person
Hooray for Humans is a very active online collective of artists and culture disseminators that have published some very worthwhile podcasts. This past Saturday they curated a show at the Academy in Long Beach, where they’re based. The Hooray for Humans podcasts find the group musing on everything from perceptions of what their outsiders assume their name means to spoken word poets to Sound Walk coverage, all focusing on Long Beach related arts and artistic happenings.
Do yourself a favor and check these free treats out. While not incredibly polished, they definitely opened me up to a lot of activity going on not to far from here. I was, until new Found volunteer Luciano introduced me, very unfamiliar with the breadth of Long Beach’s diverse artistic community. Enjoy.
ps—I just learned about a trick that lets you listen to podcasts faster, without upping the pitch so that everyone sounds like chipmunks. Let’s face it, you probably can take the information faster than its intentional pace. Here’s what you do [thanks Mark Frauenfelder & windley.com]:
- Open iTunes and right click the track you want to listen to
- Choose ’show song file’ from the contextual menu
- Right click the file and choose ‘Open with … QuickTime Player’
- Select ‘Show A/V Controls’ from the QuickTime Windows menu
- Adjust the Playback Speed slider until you find a speed that works for you
