Correction

julian-brody.jpg

Next Saturday’s opening reception for Donna Angers’ debut exhibition will no longer feature music by Sam Sparro. Instead, Modus Vivendi labelmate Julian Brody will be spinning some real classy electro beats mixed with his Mexican style [mostly original material]. Julian’s performed with the Nortec Collective and numerous other international acts.

In addition, Sam Sparro will reschedule a set for August 18. Found is hosting this special evening during the Sunset Junction Street Festival called Conjunction Gumption, featuring the spaced-out, poppy red stylings of resident evil DJ Crza. In the meantime, Sparro has released a tight little mixtape on his myspace, but you can download it here, too.

I know we didn’t provide four weeks for these works to gestate in our loins, but that’s probably better to keep it somewhat terse.

SLIDELUCKPOTSHOW los angeles

big_3.jpg

LEAVE IT TO THE ARTISTS to make inherently whack things [especially analog or early digital] like ASCII, PowerPoint, disposable cameras, calligraphy, bookbinding, crochet, & model airplanes fun again [or for the first time]. This Friday, June 29, the Slideluckpotshow crew celebrates their 9th combination of the historically avoided family rituals of slideshows & potlucks in LA. I’m no good behind the wok, so I’ll have to buy something awesome & unoffensive to bring [or weird, regional, & quirky]. Here’s the full info from the organizers:

Obsolete Items and Other Things to Which I Take a Liking40837439_566fb2e1a8_o.gif

Oeser recently turned me on to Mark Jenkins [who also seems to run around with those Graffiti Research Lab kids]. His packing tape creations range from the tiny & fragile to the oversized & difficult to destroy. The street/pastoral/tundra/indoor artist seems prolific without compromising quality.

Venice Arts Group Show

What do you remember doing as a 13-14 year old after school and on the weekend? Eating cherrios in front of the TV watching cartoons like me? This smart and art savvy group of teenagers in Venice took photography lessons from working artists and professionals in the field at Venice Arts. It’s a community non-profit serving youth of diverse economic and social status. The girls in this exhibition gave back to the community they are a part of in the form of social and self documentation. This candid and personal work will really wake you up in a sweet way.

GROUP SHOW

Black and White Photography, portraiture, self portraiture, and experimental works.

Ursula Barker, Esme Jackson, Elena Nardini, Alex Thomas, and Francesca Thomas

Clear Your Plans for Tonight

belinishow.jpg

Found neighbors Bellini Cafe [a small outdoor patio joint by the middle school] is hosting this ridiculous [& ridiculously free] benefit this afternoon/early evening.  I would go for Percee P alone [an emcee who has been around for a while and is finally coming out with a solo later this year on Stones Throw & produced by Madlib].

Weird.
