Low Overhead, Simulated Reality = Artists’ Dream

picture_2.jpg

This article in Reuters spells out how rapidly the ‘fine art scene’ is growing on Second Life - how artists are actually making a living (going back to the adage that there’s a buyer out there for every piece of art) by having global exposure. Granted, all art galleries and most artists have their own solid web presences, but it’s much easier to stumble upon something in Second Life.

About a year ago, at the Four Eyed Monsters After Party at the Orphanage, a fellow named JP introduced us to Second Life. I quickly joined and took the handle ‘Tinatinatina Yutani.’ I used it for about three days. I couldn’t handle this intensive new web identity in addition to all of the other web obligations (or webobligations, or webligations, weblock, or wiibibliotagens), and, now, Ms. Yutani (she was part feral) is resting in an abandoned internet cemetery.

So, for artists, check it out I guess. But, still, you should stick to your game & make sure it’s on point before wasting hours a day promoting < awesome art.
