Wolfgang Bauer receives QAR Award
The Queer Arts Resource has just recently awarded their monthly link to our upcoming artist, Mr. Wolfgang Bauer’s, new website. Here’s what the QAR had to say about the artist and his work.
+++++
“Born and educated in Austria, Wolfgang currently lives in Los Angeles. He holds degree in Fine Arts, Gender Studies, and German Literature from the University of Southern California. An oil painter and artist, Wolfgang is known for his expansive use of canvas. He has exhibited his work throughout the U.S. and many other countries around the world.
The concept for his latest series of paintings was initially inspired by Frank Wedekind’s inconoclastic 1891 play ‘Spring Awakening.’ This series evolved from his interdisciplinary studies of German literature, philosophy and anthropology, and explores facets of childhood development within Western society’s sex negative patriarchal, family structures. To encourage a discourse between the viewer and the paintings, the characters in his paintings make direct eye contact engaging the viewer as a reactor to the narrative with the viewer’s own social, cultural, political and religious affiliations as pertinent variables. The portrayed characters thus serve as catalysts of socialization, prompted by patriarchal family structures within Western society.

Finally, Mr. Bauer has also recently set up a flickr account, as any responsible citizen should. Congrats.
