about art crawl

A decade ago, Billy Shire's brainchild 'Art Crawl' included his gallery La Luz de Jesus as well as other Eastside venues in an effort to organize and capitalize on our artistic community's potential. Since then, the Crawl has mutated and expanded throughout the neighborhoods of Echo Park, Los Feliz, and Silverlake. For the first time this year, the Crawl includes several Atwater Village galleries, for they fit very well into our community of exhibition spaces and sensibilities.

The Crawl has historically incorporated 'proper' gallery spaces as well as 'other retail/art exhibition' spaces such as indie toy stores, anitquities/oddities, graphic novel/comic stores, clothing stores, eateries, etc. that display great art from local and visiting artists. We believe that a proper boundary around what an art-going experience should not necessarily be limited to classical galleries only. As the lines between fine art, fashion, street art, toys, graphic design, etc. are increasingly overlapping, the Crawl will offer you a wide range of possible types of art viewing/consuming/interactive experiences that will be unique to our neighborhoods' aesthetics and attitudes.

This year, Art Crawl X will be an exciting, thought-provoking, community experience.
